CRITICAL RESPONSE 2010 Pakistan Flooding

  • Pakistan has suffered its worst flooding in over 80 years.
  • Over 1,700 lives have been lost.
  • Over 21 million people have been affected directly by the flooding.  Survivors face grim conditions in tent cities and diseases are flourishing in unbearable heat.
  • Pakistan has suffered a loss of about Rs 250 billion in agricultural and livestock sectors and the flood recovery costs may run into billions of dollars.
  • Over 17 million acres of agricultural land has been submerged and ripe crops of rice, cotton, and sugarcane destroyed.
  • Over 100,000 cows, buffaloes, goats, sheep, horses, camels, and donkeys have been lost and 3,000 fish farms and 2,000 poultry farms destroyed across the country.
  • 8,000,000 people are in need of critical medical care.
  • Up to 3,500,000 children are in danger of contracting water and insect borne diseases.
  • The floods have ruined over 1,600,00 acres of crops and 200,000 livestock have died.
  • This year YOU helped HDF: 
    • Train 520 individuals with technical vocational skills
    • Support 200 micro-entrepreneurs through micro credit plans
    • Arrange hundreds of medical camps in all regions of HDF
    • Educate more than 10,000 children
    • Treat over 40 thousand flood victims
    • Distribute 2.38 million meals during the flood
    • Set up 2 water filtration plants ,  distributed water purification tablets, clean water jerry-cans, mineral water bottles and installed 14 water tanks, providing  safe drinking water  to thousands of individuals through distribution of biosand filters
